Trevor
is our “Miracle Child”, not only was he premature, born at 32 weeks;
weighing 2 lbs, he also was born without a right hand. We had no
idea about the hand, I was in the middle of my C-Section and the doctor
told me there was an abnormality. I asked my husband to please
find out what was happening. The doctor came over to me, and said
Trevor will be all right, he has an elbow and full range of movement.
I was in shock and so was my husband, it was so surreal to hear those
words. The interesting thing that happened to us is that we cared
more about him staying alive because he was so small than we did about
the hand. We just wanted Trevor to be alive to share his life with
us no matter what.
Trevor
is an incredible child who makes everyone smile and happy to have him in
their lives. He just brightens up anyone who meets him, and they
realize how lucky they are to have Trevor in their life. He
overcomes all obstacles big and small, his favorite saying is “No
me do it." His determination to accomplish his goals is
inspiring to me as a parent with two hands. He shows both my husband
and me something new everyday, of how we as adults can be better
people. Trevor is kind, compassionate, and gentle with everyone he
knows, and shows a great deal of respect for others. He is especially
concerned about others who have “boo boos,” as Trevor calls them.
We
became members of the Colorado UnLimbited Children group to share our
experiences with other families and to support each other through the
different stages our children will go through. Maybe it’s just
tying your shoes with one hand, or how we dealt with someone being
overbearing with Trevor and asking him too many questions about his
missing hand. We also wanted to be there for other new parents who
are experiencing the hardship and loss, to let them know that there will
always be challenges, but we have the most beautiful children and we are
thankful to have them in our lives. I share this story with you,
so you know that my son Trevor is a wonderful, giving, caring human
being whom I respect with all my heart and soul. I’m sure your
experiences are similar in some ways, and if you need the support the
Colorado UnLimbited Children group is always here for you….
